Welcome
My father, Raymond V. Bomba, was born in Texas on February 14, 1907. After a stint as a photographer in New York City, he made his way to Los Angeles in the early 1940s. There he became a motion picture sound effects editor, a job he worked at until retirement in 1972. He passed away in 1986.
For years Ray labored away on a book in which he espoused his philosophy of life. Entitled FAR BEYOND WORDS, it consisted of short, poem-like passages on everything from money to politics, happiness to warfare. Believing his thoughts to be revolutionary, he had big plans for an elegant volume with photos and artwork to complement his words. Unfortunately, these never came to pass and his manuscript, over which he had labored countless hours, was relegated to a firesafe in my closet.
As his son, I always hoped to one day do something with my father’s writing, if not get it published, to somehow make it available for public consumption, to give Ray Bomba’s ideas and reflections the forum he so very much wanted them to have. One day it dawned on me that, if my father was alive and active today, he would be enamored with the Internet and its powerful capability for communication. And he would have a blog.
And so here is FAR BEYOND WORDS, a blog in which, post by post, my father’s opus will finally find publication and, hopefully, bring a little more wisdom to a world that is too often unwise.
